Unemployment doesn't look so bad at 6.9pc, but the reality for job seekers is far grimmer

Economics and history student Jushina Choudary is worried about how she'll get her first professional job when she graduates from the University of Sydney in a few months.

"I don't have faith in the jobs market anymore," she tells The Business.

"I'm really scared about next year. I don't think I'll get a job — I have a very negative outlook."

The 21-year-old and her peers will graduate into an economy where the ABS estimates there are almost 360,000 fewer jobs than there were 12 months ago and the unemployment rate has started rising again after a surprise fall last month.
